Go Beyond

Go Beyond STEM Celebration is a conference for students run to coincide with International Women’s Day each year. Our upcoming event will hosted on Wednesday, March 5th 2025.

Supported by Morson Group STEM Foundation, this significant event strengthens the connection between our female students and industry professionals, boosting their confidence and equipping them with essential career skills and insights. A vibrant STEM summit, bringing together students from all year levels, celebrates women’s achievements in STEM. As part of a vision to expand Go Beyond, we welcoming students from neighbouring universities Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester to join us for the 2025 celebration event.

A video of Go Beyond 2024 showcases our fabulous inspirational speaker Dr. Shini Somara, who is a distinguished female figure in the world of engineering, delivered a stirring keynote urging attendees to harness their differences to make a difference – a message that resonated deeply throughout the day. Dr. Somara followed up by moderating the first panel of the day, where the topic ‘Developing your superpowers for future careers’ provided invaluable insights and experiences from our industry panel.

What is Go Beyond?

Launched in 2020, Go Beyond was designed to support female engineering students at the University of Salford. The programme soon expanded to include all three academic years, offering coaching sessions, industry speakers, and mentee connections with industry mentors, and a safe place for conversations. Our students gain a greater insight into industry and work-ready skills, develop an understanding for communication, and discover good practices, helping them to confidently step into a STEM career. These initiatives provide crucial guidance, inspiring role models, and a supportive environment to help students transition from academia to the professional world.

Go Beyond seeks to support students’ future readiness while fostering network opportunities for women in engineering through our industry partners. The continued support from the Morson Group and our Alumni network is a testament to our strong partnerships and joint commitment to nurturing talent pipelines for the next generation of women in engineering.” Dr. Maria Stukoff, Maker Space Director.
