About Us
Background
The Maker Space was established as part of the University of Salford in 2017, and over the years we’ve built a capable workshop for students and staff to use freely. We had humble beginnings starting in a desktop-only facility, and now we are located prominently in the newly built Science, Engineering & Environment building (SEE) across a 300 m² footprint, in the heart of the Peel Park Campus.
At the University of Salford, we are committed to expanding opportunities for students in their pursuit of STEAM education and careers. The Maker Space stands as a flagship for future-fit skills, offering students invaluable hands-on experience across a range of cutting-edge tools and digital fabrication equipment. By integrating, prototyping, and experimentation into the learning process, maker education bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge, practical application, and industry standards.
Our aim is to provide an environment where all students have access to digital manufacturing processes, covering a broad spectrum of 3D printing technologies, laser cutters, CNC milling machines, lathes and a waterjet cutter. “We don’t buy machines we aren’t happy to teach students and staff how to use” – so make the most of the opportunity available and get hands-on with some powerful equipment.
