Primary Engineer
Inspiring future engineers through STEM education!
Hands-on engineering experiences are helping primary school pupils across Greater Manchester discover the possibilities of STEM.
Through our partnership with Primary Engineer and the Morson Group STEM Foundation, the Morson Maker Space supports teachers and pupils in exploring engineering through practical design challenges, real-world industry connections, and collaborative learning. Together, we are helping young learners see engineering as creative, accessible and relevant to their future.

What is Primary Engineer?
Primary Engineer is an educational not-for-profit organisation dedicated to engaging primary and secondary school pupils and teachers with engineering and technology.
Their programmes combine practical design-and-build activities with curriculum learning, enabling pupils to develop STEM skills.
By equipping teachers with training and classroom resources, Primary Engineer ensures that engineering can become an engaging and sustainable part of everyday teaching.
Engaging young students in the world of engineering

Morson Projects’ partnership with Primary Engineer is indicative of the Morson Group’s wider commitment to the rail industry, following its launch, in collaboration with Network Rail, of the first-ever national rail training and assessment academy earlier this year. With strong support from Morson Group and the wider community, the future of STEM education in Greater Manchester is brighter than ever. The Morson STEM Foundation remains dedicated to breaking down barriers and inspiring the next generation of engineers.
Bringing Rail Engineering into the Classroom
Each year, teachers from 10 primary schools across Greater Manchester receive professional development, engineering kits, and classroom resources to deliver a practical rail engineering project.
Teachers are trained to guide pupils in building two model vehicles. Working in pairs, pupils explore the engineering design process by building, testing and improving their models.

Industry involvement is a key part of the programme. Engineers from Morson Projects support schools throughout the project, allowing pupils to interact with real engineers, ask questions about their work and gain a better understanding of engineering careers. The programme culminates in a celebration event, where schools come together to test their vehicles and share their designs.
“Creative, hands-on challenges are a great way of capturing young people’s imaginations and breaking down barriers to participation.” Andy Hassall, Associate Director, Morson Praxis
